I am the head coach of the Pride Girls AAU Basketball Team. The AAU is a league, which focuses local talented girls in a
concentrated athletic environment where their potential and skills are nurtured and matured for prospective placement in post
high school collegiate athletic programs. The Pride Girls Basketball Team is based in Providence RI and we, I and the assistant
coaches, are a team which focuses on well rounded curriculums which encompasses athletics, but most importantly academic and
environmental constraints. By this we mean that majority of our efforts goes towards a population which in itself has had
little help in how to construct and nourish themselves, their spirits and their well being. We motivate individuals to be
holistic; we enable our individuals to handle both the pressures of a rigorous athletic program and many of life's perils.
In our program we teach all our athletes to be individuals in responsibility, with a strong focus on team efforts. We
emphasize the single person for in our urban environment many are left to themselves to make tough choices we feel that they
should grow to be most dependent on themselves; through this initial exploration we then invite the structure of team strength.
This involves the coaching staff in many one on one sessions both pre and post practice where we assess their well being and
mentor their progression. This all accumulates into a tough, mental and physical work out where their individual strengths
combine as one team; here is where they achieve their Pride.
We are a family. I tell them, like a family we need tools to strengthen the family home and you all can provide them.
Coaching is full of metaphors; it is the strength of the thinking energy, which surrounds a good team. It is here that we
are extending our philosophy to you. A family, much like our youth, need to know when to ask for assistance and as we are
at the doorsteps of this new season we are ever in need of tools for constructing a well rounded team; we need your encouragement
to give us PRIDE.
We thank you for reading our Team philosophy and we hope that we have encouraged you to be a part of our family. Though
we emphasize our program and our needed assistance there are other programs that are involved in this discipline. Should
you choose not to become a part of our unit we wish you to consider the many programs, which help guide our youth. Your contributions,
be it counseling, supportive role, monetary, volunteering or donation will help us tremendously. We hope to hear from you
soon.
Sincerely,
Thomas Anderson
